Special Theory of Duet Dancing in Space + Time
A cosmic duet.
A story of two dancers discovering a partnership through space and time unfolds in a wild, visually spectacular clash of worlds and wit. Filmmaker Craig Baurley takes a fresh approach to visual effects, using off-screen performers to enhance on-screen talent. The movement blends contact improvisation, gymnastics, slapstick, martial arts, and partnering into a unique storytelling form. A mysterious wormhole tears their worlds apart and fuses them into a surreal dance floor. Composer Joseph Kaplan’s score, featuring cellist April Guthrie, incorporates unusual foley sounds like dry ice, sheet metal, rebar, and dropping rugs.
